Zoo Knoxville is a family-friendly attraction that has been entertaining the people of Tennessee for over 50 years. With 800+ animals from all around the world and various exhibits, there’s something for everyone!

When was Zoo Knoxville founded?

The zoo has gone through various transformations over the years, but the current Knoxville Zoo as we know it was founded in 1971.

Knoxville Zoo unveiled a big rebranding plan in 2016, along with a bunch of new exhibits. As part of that, the zoo was renamed Zoo Knoxville.

Why should you visit the zoo?

Zoo Knoxville is a place where fun and adventure abound. There are so many interesting things to see at the zoo.

For example, you could stop by the Williams Family Giraffe Encounter and feed the giraffes a handful of green beans. You’ll get to pet two-story-high giraffes and hand feed the beautiful animals.

How to get there 

Zoo Knoxville is located near exit 392 off Interstate 40. 

The zoo is just 7 miles from the University of Tennessee. Once you’re east of Knoxville on TN-158 E, take I-40 to exit 392. 

Drive onto Knoxville Zoo Dr and you’ll find the zoo at 3500 Knoxville Zoo Dr.

If you live near Tennessee Theatre, here are the directions from there:

From Gay St, turn onto Henley St. Then, get on I-40 E. Follow I-40 E to Timothy Ave. Take exit 392 from I-40 E, take exit 392 for US-11W S and then drive to Knoxville Zoo Dr.

How much does it cost to go to Zoo Knoxville?

Entry cost depends on which type of ticket you buy.

Admission to Zoo Knoxville is $24.95 for adults and $19.95 for seniors, children ages 3-12, and college students with ID. Children under 2 enter free of charge.

Zoo Knoxville has a membership program that allows members free access to the zoo.
